Faculty Instructional Activities
In November 2002, President Richard Atkinson appointed a Task Force on Faculty Instructional Activities to examine the adequacy and equity of instructional responsibilities at UC. The Task Force also considered the way UC defines faculty instructional activities and described them both publicly and to UC faculty. That task force produced two reports:
- Describing and Reporting Faculty Instructional Activities (pdf), which suggests a new approach to reporting faculty teaching activities in a way that more appropriately reflects the special features of a research university experience for UC students and the different modes of teaching in which UC faculty are engaged.
- Faculty Instructional Responsibilities: Guidelines for Departmental Policies (pdf), which places the locus of responsibility for teaching activities expressly on the department, and recommends new processes to monitor comparability of efforts within disciplines and strengthens oversight.
In September 2003, Provost Judson King appointed an Implementation Task Force (ITF) to provide oversight for the development and practical assessment of the new approach to reporting faculty instructional activities recommended in the reports above. The ITF report and its appendices are provided below.
- Implementation Task Force Report (pdf) (August 2005)
- Annual Report to Legislature (pdf) (February 2007)
