The Orientation Express Boards New Students for Fall 2006
UC strongly recommends that new students attend an orientation session to begin their university careers on the right foot. Programs vary, but all campuses offer sessions for first-year freshman and transfer students, and nearly all of them have programs for family members of new UC students.
Orientation sessions provide a comprehensive introduction to campus life through a series of counseling sessions, presentations and workshops. At orientation, students participate in academic advising sessions, obtain information about course and major requirements, and become familiar with different aspects of student life on campus. Students who register for courses during orientation receive priority over those students who miss it. Academic advising and registration are also available right before classes begin in the fall.
During multi-day programs, students stay overnight in campus residence halls; meals are included. Two- and three-day sessions generally include placement exams, peer counseling, and course planning and enrollment.
Orientation program schedules appear below. Each campus sends admitted students detailed information, including any required fees and instructions for registering.

Beginning in late May, detailed information about orientation will be mailed to students who have submitted a Statement of Intention to Register. There will be 10 three-day orientation sessions for freshmen and seven one-day sessions for transfers throughout July and August. |
