School Students Compete in Otter Bowl
UC Santa Cruz hosted 75 students from 14 area high schools in the
fourth annual Northern California Ocean Sciences Bowl, affectionately
known as the Otter Bowl, February 10. The event, hosted by the Seymour
Center at Long Marine Lab, is a fast-paced, Jeopardy-style competition
that tests high school students' knowledge of marine sciences.
This year's winner was the team from Mission San Jose High School.
The Seymour Center is one of 19 sites across the country hosting
regional competitions. The winners from the Northern California
region will travel to Miami in April to compete in the national
finals.

Student Volunteers to Take UCSC
Home From March 2023, during UC Santa Cruz' spring break,
over 100 current UCSC students will be visiting their former high
schools and colleges to offer information about UCSC in a program
known as "Taking UCSC Home." This year, a record number of student
volunteers will visit schools, distribute information about UCSC
and make themselves available to answer questions from admitted
and prospective students.
For more information about Taking UCSC Home, contact Regina Hatfield,
Admissions In-House Counselor and Volunteer Coordinator, at (831)
