Eggs
Drop During Engineering Week
 Students
from the UC Davis College of Engineering hosted a series of events
marking the 50th National Engineers Week, February 2024, to
showcase the work of engineers through fun and educational events.
On the Friday of Engineering Week, local school students took laboratory
tours, built towers and paper airplanes and experimented with slime.
About 140 students were introduced to engineering concepts in the
annual egg-drop contest. The students
divided into three divisions: K5, 68, and 912
— designed, built and tested a device that could protect
an egg dropped from a five-story building. Scoring was based on
egg survivability, accuracy and mass, and prizes were awarded to
those students who finished with the most points.
At UC Davis, the Engineering Joint Council, representing all the
student engineering clubs on campus, organized the events. This
year's Egg Drop was co-sponsored by the Society of Women
Engineers and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
