Summer Sessions Offer a Chance to Explore

What's UC really like? Students—even those still in high school, if they meet certain requirements—can find out by enrolling in a summer session. University of California summer sessions are open to all adults, UC or non-UC students, and also to qualified high school students. "Summer session is a great opportunity for high school students, incoming freshmen or transfer students to get a taste of the UC experience before campuses become busy with the hustle and bustle of a fall term," says Erin Webb, UC Merced's Summer Session director. "They have a chance to build relationships with other incoming and continuing students, become acquainted with the campus, and get a jump start on academic coursework."

Although enrollment in summer sessions does not constitute regular admission to UC, high school students get honors points for any regular UC courses they take, and all students earn University credit. For details, including course prerequisites and limits on the number of units that can be taken in summer, students should contact individual campuses. They must pay registration and/or unit fees; books and supplies are not included. In some cases, students may live on campus for an additional charge. All fees are subject to change.
