Transfer Admission Guarantee

TAG Form, Matrix Updated Since ETS Conference

New versions of the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) application form and teh TAG matrix (which provides a list of participating campuses, eligibility criteria and campus-specific notes) are posted online at www.UCTransfer.org and at the Ensuring Transfer Success (ETS) conference website.

Both documents have been updated since the ETS conferences in May to clarify information about which campuses allow international students to apply for TAGs (UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara) and to describe the new changes to UC San Diego's TAG policy (see below).

The common TAG form and name will be used by the seven UC campuses that offer transfer-guarantee programs: UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and UC Santa Cruz.

Counselors who attend the UC Counselor Conferences can get more information about each campus's TAG program at the TAG workshop, scheduled from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. at each location.

UC San Diego Expands Program

UC San Diego announced at the May ETS conferences that its TAG program would expand to include all 109 California community colleges.

The expanded TAG program will become effective with applications for fall 2009 admission to UCSD and will include these additional changes:

  • The program will be available only for fall and winter terms. Students must earn a minimum cumulative UC GPA of 3.0 by end of fall term 2008 for fall 2009 admission, and must maintain a 3.0 cumulative UC GPA through the end of spring 2009. For winter 2010 admission, students must earn a minimum cumulative UC GPA of 3.0 by the end of summer 2009. All students must be in good standing their last regular term.
  • Students must complete the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) — partial IGETC completion will not be allowed. The campus must receive the IGETC certification form by July 15, 2009, for fall 2009, or Sept. 15, 2009, for winter 2010. This will replace the current program's core general education course requirements.
  • Students must complete the UC-transferable English and math courses required for eligibility by the end of fall term prior to fall admission, or by the end of summer term prior to winter admission.
  • When applying for a TAG, students must rank UC San Diego's six colleges in order of preference, since the campus will not guarantee admission to a particular college.
  • Students will no longer be required to have a contract with UC San Diego. As with the UC Santa Barbara TAG program, students who complete TAG requirements need only submit an application for UC admission during the appropriate filing period. The new requirements will be posted on www.assist.org in September 2007.

Until the new program is implemented, students pursuing a TAG at UC San Diego should use the transfer agreement contract available from their community colleges. The current TAG program remains in effect for students applying through spring 2009.
