New Gymnastics Club Flies High in Contest with Davis, Berkeley

UC Santa Cruz's College Gymnastics Club competed for the first time in November in Berkeley, against club teams from UC Berkeley and UC Davis. UCSC's gymnasts came home with first and third places in the men's all-around competition and a tie for second place in the women's uneven bars. Another meet is scheduled for March, against UC Davis.

The College Gymnastics Club was formed in January 2007. Its members include 13 men and 17 women gymnasts, ranging from complete novices to those who have competed at the national level.

Summer Session Wins Awards

UC Santa Cruz's Summer Session has won two awards from the Western Association of Summer Session Administrators.

The 2007 award for Best Credit Program went to the campus's Ayudando Ninos en Centro America (At-Risk Children in Central America) program.

The program's instructor, UC Santa Cruz psychology lecturer Dr. David Hoffman, and 25 students spent five weeks conducting interdisciplinary research on the lives of children who are abandoned, working, living on the street or engaged in prostitution.

The campus's Summer Session also won the Best Web Site award for its 2007 website.
