Santa BarbaraCampus Adds Geography Information Science EmphasisThis fall, UCSB undergraduate Geography majors will be able to choose a formally defined emphasis in geographic information science, which works with information about places on the earth’s surface, from the detailed (the location of a particular building or an individual tree in a forest) to the broad (the climate of a large region or the population density of a country). It has been a hot topic for years with the campus’s graduate students. The Department of Geography has been at the forefront of the recent revolution in geographical theory and methodology, as seen in such popular services as Mapquest and Google Earth. The Geography Department is the home of the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis. |
