PG&E Partners With School of Engineering

Representatives from Pacific Gas and Electric Company visited UC Merced in November and left behind a few important things, including two blue-flamed, custom-wrapped Honda Civics powered by natural gas and a $1 million dollar check.

The monetary gift, part of the utility's five-year partnership with UC Merced's School of Engineering, will support student recruitment and retention by expanding the school's Service Learning Laboratory, which provides a home base for students' work on cooperative engineering projects with community nonprofit groups. Service learning is required by UC Merced's engineering curriculum and helps retain students by facilitating hands-on learning early in the engineering education process.
