University of California - Introducing the University
The Freshman Profile summarizes by UC campus the qualifications of applicants and admitted freshmen for fall 1999. Please be cautious in drawing conclusions from this information. The data are useful only as a general guide to selectivity, rather than to predict your chances for admission to a particular campus or program.
Many campuses use SAT II scores in the selection process, and these are not included in the profile. In addition, the data for several colleges on a campus may be grouped together, which will mask differences in the degree of competition for admission among them. Some campuses and colleges admit students directly into individual majors and the degree of competition among majors may vary widely.
The data reflect the selection process in place for fall 1999 applicants. Changes to the University's minimum eligibility requirements for freshmen go into effect beginning with applicants for fall 2001. The selection process for the fall 2001 term may be different and the results may differ significantly.
Grade point average (GPA) intervals are listed vertically and Scholastic Aptitude Test I (SAT I) composite score (mathematics plus verbal) intervals are listed horizontally. Each block in the chart represents a pool of applicants with GPA and SAT I scores within the specific ranges indicated. In each block, the first figure in the block is the total number of applicants and the second figure is the number of applicants regularly admitted. The figure in bold type on the second line is the percentage of students who were regularly admitted.
GPA is defined as a student's GPA in the "a-f" requirements as calculated by a UC admissions evaluator or, if the evaluated GPA was not available, the student's GPA as self-reported on the application for admission and scholarships.
The campus overall total includes freshman applicants whose GPA and/or SAT composite score were out of range or unavailable. Data as of February 2000.
