"For many students, the California Community Colleges
are the perfect place to begin a UC education." In the school year of 2002-2003, the University of California launched a new path to UC for high school students, the Dual Admissions Program (DAP). Under DAP, students who fell between the top 4 percent and 12.5 percent of their high school graduating class but were not eligible to attend UC as freshmen were to receive a guaranteed offer of admission from a specific UC campus, provided they agreed to successfully complete a transfer program at a California community college. Regrettably, the Governor's 2004-05 budget eliminated funding for DAP and we have discontinued the program for the foreseeable future. Although DAP will no longer be an option for ineligible high school students considering a UC education, UC is committed to serving those students who applied to UC for admission through DAP during the fall 2004 application cycle. These DAP applicants will still receive offers of guaranteed, deferred enrollment from one or more UC campuses beginning in March. Students who accept this offer will be folded into UC's new Guaranteed Transfer Option, created this year to serve UC-eligible California residents who could not be accommodated as freshmen because of state funding cuts. Through GTO, applicants will receive the same services as they would have under DAP, including an individual academic contract describing the courses that must be completed and the grades that must be earned to successfully transfer from a California community college to a specific UC campus as a junior. In addition, these students will have access to UC advising services to guide their academic progress along the way. Please take the time to explore the site and find answers to your questions.
