Technology Transfer at the UC Office of the President

The Office of Research and Graduate Studies (ORGS) provides leadership and strategic direction for the system wide University of California technology transfer program and is responsible for administration of intellectual property on behalf of the University.

Technology Transfer activities (formerly managed by the Office of Technology Transfer) are managed by two departmental units within ORGS:

Innovation Alliances Services (IAS) works to support and enhance campus-based efforts at building industry partnerships and collaborations. In addition to developing tools and initiatives to help connect external parties to researchers on the campuses, IAS provides systemwide administration of technology transfer activities, including the evaluation of inventions, prosecution of patents, licensing of intellectual property, monitoring of licenses and other intellectual property agreements, and the distribution of resulting income. For more information, see:

The Research Policy & Coordination Unit (RPAC) provides guidance and implementation assistance to the campuses and other stakeholders regarding the development, interpretation and implementation of UC policies and external rules related to the conduct of academic research; including policies concerning intellectual property, conflict of interest and the University of California Patent Policy. RPAC also serves as the systemwide resource on the administration and negotiation of research agreements, and acts as the contracts and grants office for UCOP administered research agreements.
