NOTICE OF MEETING

This is a Notice of Meeting of the University of California Board of Regents on Wednesday, March 17, and Thursday, March 18, 2004. This regular business meeting of the board will be held at the UC San Francisco-Laurel Heights campus, 3333 California St., in San Francisco.

Wednesday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with public comment, followed by open sessions that will include discussions of UC's 2004-05 budget, student fee policy, sexual harassment policy and reporting procedures, and a presentation by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell on the state of education in California. The Wednesday afternoon agenda will be held in closed session to discuss personnel, investment and legal matters.

Thursday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with public comment, followed by open session. Regents will consider action on guidelines for UC's domestic equity investments, the approval of the annual external audit plan and audit coverage of the national laboratories. Discussion items will include the national search for a new Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory director, an update on the competition schedule for the U.S. Energy Department laboratories, an update from the faculty's special committee on the national laboratories, and an update on the eligibility and admissions study group.
