NOTICE OF MEETING

This is a Notice of Meeting of the University of California Board of Regents on Wednesday, May 14, and Thursday, May 15, 2003. This regular business meeting of the board will be held at the UC San Francisco-Laurel Heights campus, 3333 California St., in San Francisco.

Wednesday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with public comment, followed by open sessions that will include action on proposed student fee increases for 2003-04 and capital projects for UC Davis's Tower II, the UC Irvine Medical Center replacement hospital and a UC San Diego student academic services facility. Discussion items will include the report of the Educational Outreach Strategic Review Panel and an overview of UC medical schools. Part of the Wednesday afternoon agenda will be held in closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel, investment and legal matters.

Thursday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with public comment, followed by open session. Regents will consider action on a proposal to oppose the "Classification by Race, Ethnicity, Color, or National Origin" state ballot initiative (formerly known as the "Racial Privacy Initiative"). Discussion items will include updates on Los Alamos National Laboratory management issues, the annual report of the President's Council on the Department of Energy Laboratories and eligibility criteria for freshman admissions.
