| Back Friday, September 21, 2001 GOVERNOR DAVIS APPOINTS MEMBERS TO THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA SACRAMENTO - Governor Gray Davis today announced the appointments of Monica C. Lozano and Norman J. Pattiz as members of the Regents of the University of California. Ms. Lozano, 45, of Los Angeles, is the President and Chief Operating Officer of La Opinion Newspaper, where she has worked for 16 years. She was also a member of the California State Board of Education. Ms. Lozano is a member of the University of Southern California Board of Trustees, the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Student Achievement, and the Board of Governors of the Los Angeles Annenberg Metropolitan Project, a five-year initiative for K-12 school reform. She was a member of the California Citizens Commission on Higher Education, and the Los Angeles County Education Foundation. Ms. Lozano also served on the California Postsecondary Education Commission from 1999 to 2001. Mr. Pattiz, 58, of Beverly Hills, is the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Westwood One, America's largest radio network. He is a member of the Commission on Building for the 21st Century, the Broadcast Education Association, the Dean's Advisory Board of Cal State Fullerton, and serves on the Communications Board of the Associated Students at the University of California, Los Angeles. In November 2000, Mr. Pattiz was appointed by President Clinton to the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors. As required by law, the Governor has submitted the names of his nominees to the Regents Advisory Selection Committee. Members do not receive a salary. These positions require Senate confirmation.
