| Back FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JOINT STATEMENT ON UC, CSU JOINT EDUCATION DOCTORATE In recognition of California's growing need for skilled K-12 and community college education leaders, we are pleased to announce that the California State University (CSU) and the University of California (UC) systems have agreed to create a mechanism to establish new joint Doctorates in Education (Ed.D.s) programs. This agreement builds on the mutual strengths of CSU and UC campuses while remaining consistent with the basic tenets of the California Master Plan for Higher Education. It is also responsive to K-12 and community college educators who expressed the belief in regional meetings held across the state that there is great value in CSU-UC collaboration on the delivery of Ed.D. programs and other professional development opportunities that enhance leadership in education. The agreement contains three key provisions: - CSU and UC will create a joint Board to solicit, develop, fund and expedite proposals for joint EdD programs and will provide $4 million in the first two years to fund such proposals; and - CSU and UC will establish a joint regional assessment process to ensure that the educational leadership needs of K-12 and community colleges are matched with resources at CSU and UC, including joint CSU/UC programs. - CSU and UC will be co-equal partners in the development and implementation of new joint Ed.D. programs. We believe that this agreement provides a sound and fiscally responsible strategy to address the leadership needs of K-12 and community college educators. We further believe it is in the best interests of California's educators, the faculty of our two institutions, and the people of California. |
