Thursday May 17, 2001 University of California Hosts Reception For Alumni and Friends in London and Honors Distinguished UC Professor Emeritus in the UK The Alumni Associations of the University of California (AAUC) and the University of California Trust (UK) are hosting a special event for alumni and friends on June 26, 2001 at Spencer House in London. The evening reception will be a unique opportunity for UC alumni and friends living abroad to connect and network with others in the international community. A tour of the historic Spencer House will be offered for those interested shortly before the reception from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The event will feature an address by Roddy Gow, President of the British-American Business Council, on the current and future climate of US-UK business relationships and will be an opportunity to recognize the university's education abroad students. In addition, J.L Heilbron will be honored as the 2001 recipient of the University of California Trust (UK) Award. Heilbron, a Professor and Vice Chancellor Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley, is a distinguished historian of science who has authored several influential works in the field, including Dilemmas of an Upright Man, for which he was awarded the History of Science Society's Watson Davis Prize for Understanding of Science, and most recently, The Sun in the Church, a History Book Club selection. Heilbron is currently a Senior Research Fellow at Worcester College, Oxford. The University of California Trust (UK) is housed in the University's first international hub - California House in London, which was opened in 1999. California House promotes and facilitates research alliances with academic, industrial, and governmental R & D centers in Europe, houses the Education Abroad Program (EAP), and develops alumni relations in the U.K and Europe.
