The following statement was issued today (June 12) in connection with a security
incident reported at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. The University of California
manages the laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy. "The university takes this matter very seriously, and I have been personally
engaged in addressing it. Strong and effective security at the national laboratories
managed by the University of California is essential. We will not tolerate weaknesses. The
university is working with the laboratory and the Department of Energy to know more about
the incident at Los Alamos, and we are prepared to take all necessary and appropriate
action in response to it. This includes making further improvements in laboratory security
and holding individuals personally accountable for their conduct or lack of action in this
matter." |
