STATEMENT FROM UC PRESIDENT RICHARD C. ATKINSON ON UCSF STANFORD HEALTH CARE
OAKLAND -- University of California President Richard C. Atkinson issued the following statement today (Oct. 28) on the decision of Stanford University to withdraw from UCSF Stanford Health Care, the merged entity that encompassed the two universities' hospitals and clinics in a not-for-profit enterprise.
"UCSF Stanford Health Care was a bold attempt to bring together the expertise of two of the world's premier academic medical faculties, with enormous potential benefit to patients and the academic and research programs of both institutions. We regret that after enormous effort on the part of all parties, Stanford has decided that it cannot continue to participate in the merged organization. Our task now will be to maintain and advance the high level of medical care that has long been the hallmark of the University of California at San Francisco."
