FOURTEEN UC FACULTY ELECTED TO NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
Fourteen of the 60 new members of the National Academy
of Sciences are University of California faculty members, UC President Richard
C. Atkinson
announced today.
"Election to membership in the National Academy of Sciences is one of the highest honors a scientist may receive," Atkinson said.
"This year's results are another confirmation of the continuing high accomplishment of the university's faculty," Atkinson added. The total number of UC faculty holding membership in the NAS now totals 299.
The new NAS members were selected "in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research," the academy said in its announcement.
