MESA community college director honored

Susan Crowther, director of the MESA program at College of the Canyons, has been selected by her peers as MESA Community College Center Director of the Year. In addition to helping produce 38 successful transfer students last year (all in calculus-based majors), Crowther has led the development of outstanding Academic Excellence Workshops, professional development, academic advising and industry relations programs (with the help of program assistant Joni McMahon). Her students have gone on to study at universities such as UCLA, USC and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The award will be given at the college’s board of trustees meeting in July. The College of the Canyons MESA program currently serves 147 educationally dis- advantaged students in the Valencia and Santa Clarita areas.
