Q: When were you involved in MESA and how did you hear about it?
A: I heard about MESA in my junior year at San Francisco State University from Dr. Ozer, the MESA Director at SFSU. She actually hired me as a tutor based on the recommendation from a professor.
Q: How did MESA affect you?
A: The MESA conferences I attended were very inspirational. Not only that but the workshops offered in those conferences just help you realize that you have great potential to achieve your dreams. I think all of those things helped me grow as an individual and as a professional.
Q: Was there something MESA offered that particularly helped you with your classes or major?
A: Believe or not the fact that I was a circuits tutor for MESA actually helped me master circuits from the inside out. I think the best way to master a subject is by teaching it to someone else. Another factor in which MESA helped me a lot was with their services at school. They have a tutoring room where I spent countless hours studying and a computer lab where I used to work on projects.
Q: What is your degree in and when did you graduate?
A: I have a computer engineering degree in May 2010 from San Francisco State University.
Q: What do you do now?
A: I own a company, OneZeroWare, which focuses on iPhone applications and accessories development. OneZeroWare was started with an idea to bring computer engineering solutions to everyday users as well as other companies.
We design applications for the iPhone that excel at what they do and even more incredible we custom design accessories that connect to the iPhone providing unlimited possibilities to the end user.
Being that education our main focus, inClass, a student organizer, is our flagship application and is designed for students all around the world.
The Cardio Vest, a vest to teach critical care nurses how to detect heart anomalies based on sounds, is an accessory we developed that communicates with an iPhone to give nursing students experience.
Q: What advice do you give other students in math, science or engineering fields?
A: Never give up. No matter how hard it gets. Even if you fail the first time -- or a couple of times -- if you like what you are doing, just try harder. Get some help from tutors, friends, and teachers. You will achieve your goals and it's going to be great!
Q: What does MESA mean to you?
A: What MESA means to me can be pretty much summarized with what it stands for.
MESA stands for:
Motivation for others by achieving
Excellence as a person, as a
Student that always aims for an
A.
That’s what MESA stands for to me!
