UCOP - LAUC - Representatives to University Advisory Bodies - Shared Library Facilities Board
TO: Terry Huwe, LAUC President
FROM: Sam Dunlap, LAUC Representative of the Shared Library Facilities Board
RE: February 23, 2005 Meeting
The inaugural meeting of the Shared Library Facilities Board was held
at
the UCOP on February 23, 2005. Most of the meeting revolved around
organizational issues of the new Board and the practices and policies
of
the RLFs. RLF staff will analyze existing Operating Principles to identify
differences that must be reconciled and propose new provisions in a report
to the Board.
In my mind, the main issues of interest to LAUC are the following:
*NRLF Phase 3 will be completed at the end of March.
*SRLF is processing the shared print journal volumes for Elsevier, ACM,
and other publishers. They are gearing up to process over 22,000 journals
for the JSTOR archive. Plans for SRLF Phase 3 funding are not in the
current five-year capital budget plan and capital funding sources after
2005-06 are uncertain.
*Policy issues arising from the Shared Print Program will be addressed
as
plans are developed.
*The statement on persistence and availability of RLF deposits,
previously
endorsed by the ULs, was approved by the Board.
*The Board charged RLF staff to develop criteria for evaluating
requests
for exceptional deposits to UC Shared Library Facilities. This will
address requests for deposit increases by particular campuses, as well
as
deposit requests from libraries that have not heretofore deposited at
the
RLFs, such as UCB Law and GTU.
The SLF Board now has a web presence at CDL:

This site includes the original charge to the Board, the membership
roster, and the meeting agenda and detailed notes from the first
meeting. There are also links to the documents discussed at the meeting
and mentioned above.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
