HOPS Report for the 2002 LAUC Fall Assembly
15 Nov 2002

HOPS met on September 20th at the UCLA campus. A variety of topics were discussed, but the two that might have the biggest impact on LAUC members were Information Literacy and Digital Reference. If you read the minutes (http://www.slp.ucop.edu/sopag/hopsmin092002.html) you will notice that the discussion around information literacy focused on the creation of a HOPS Task Force. After the meeting, John Tanno informed us that the University Librarians would prefer a Common Interest Group rather than a Task Force. From their point of view, a CIG has the advantage of having at least one representative from each campus and can serve as a forum for discussing information literacy on an ongoing basis. At this time, the membership and the charge for the Informational Literacy CIG have been established. (http://www.slp.ucop.edu/sopag/commonmembers.html)

The charge for the ILCIG includes the following four points:

As a result of a request from SOPAG, HOPS began the process of creating a Digital Reference Common Interest Group. Several UC campuses have already launched some version of digital reference beyond an e-mail address. This CIG would provide an ongoing opportunity for UC campus representatives to discuss the impact of this new technology and service. At this time, the membership and the charge for the Digital Reference CIG have been established. (http://www.slp.ucop.edu/sopag/commonmembers.html)

At their last meeting in March, HOPS discussed the creation of an informal group of campus representatives to discuss Web design issues. After the September 20th meeting, HOPS established the membership for the Web Design Managers UC Campus Group over e-mail.
