Report of the LAUC representative on CDC
One of CDC’s main charges is to coordinate systemwide activities relating to collection development with the California Digital Library. The Collection Development officers thoroughly discussed the negotiation strategy and process of the most important CDL acquisitions (Elsevier, Blackwell, Springer, etc.)
Another focus of the Committee’s activities was to lay down the principles and identify the prospective models of UC’s shared print collections. The UC libraries started building these collections by compiling print archives of major online journal databases (like JSTOR).
CDC reviewed and launched a proposal for East Asian Resources.
The group compiled and discussed a document on the scenarios and strategies on scholarly communications for summit meeting (ULs, CDC, and SCOs) held on May 5, 2005 at UCLA.
The CDC minutes are posted and can be consulted at http://libraries.universityofcalifornia.edu/cdc/.
