Guest Opinions
The Opinions section of the LAUC Web Site will include all guest opinions as well as links to the president's opinions
The Librarians Association of the University California (LAUC) is pleased to extend an invitation to its members to submit opinion articles, for publication on the LAUC Web site (www.ucop.edu/lauc).
The practice of librarianship within the University of California system places LAUC members in the forefront of every significant issue that confronts the library profession. Moreover, the University of California as an institution is sufficiently large that its many actions with respect to libraries have great impact, beyond the University. Consequently, LAUC members are in a unique position to comment on professional issues, the future of librarianship, and the role of libraries in higher education.
A list of suggested topics follows below. This list is offered to invite LAUC members to think creatively about their many areas of deep expertise.
LAUC is interested in publishing opinion columns that cover items and ideas related to the professional concerns of LAUC members. In accordance with University policy, opinion columns may not address issues covered in the University Federation of Librarians, University Council-AFT Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Likewise, opinion columns may not address the management of the University Libraries, although management theories pertaining to library practice that are not specific to the University may be appropriate.
In the interest of collegiality, this invitation to submit guest opinions is open to members of LAUC, and also to other University of California colleagues who are involved with, or care about the University Libraries. This includes the faculty, as well as colleagues at the California Digital Library and Office of the President. This online forum will provide a site where many minds can meet and enter into dialogue about librarianship within the University of California.
Guest opinions will be reviewed by at least three members of the LAUC Executive Board for suitability. If demand warrants additional review, the Executive Board may form an ad hoc review body during the spring of 2005.
