April 16, 2005
TO: Terence Huwe, LAUC President
FROM: Kenneth Furuta, LAUC Committee on Plans and Policies
RE: Progress Report
In addition to the general charge, this year’s LAUC Committee on Plans and Policies charge contained the specific task:
Additional Charges
Pursuant to our discussions, please lead the committee in a discussion of the relative merits of continuing the traditional charge of the Library Plans and Policies Committee, versus the separate formation of an Ad Hoc Committee that is comprised of LAUC statewide representatives. This group would take on a new advisory role to the LAUC Executive Board, taking maximum advantage of the representatives’ placement within the advisory structure of the University Librarians and the Office of the President. Please present your assessment in the format of a “white paper”, which the Board may utilize for further discussion.
Committee Members:
Summary of Activity to Date:
The Committee prepared and submitted a white paper on the specific charge for discussion at the Spring Assembly. Our consideration began with a summary of Committee activities from 1998 to date and a listing of systemwide committees on which LAUC has a representative. The white paper then addresses the pros and cons of reforming the Committee without taking a stance.
Respectfully submitted,
Kenneth Furuta ( Riverside)
