Report:
Currently the task force membership represents all UC campuses, except UC Davis and UCSF. The task force awaits an appointment from UC Davis as well as an appointment of a faculty member from the Academic Senate. The task force established a listserv, and began meeting virtually in early November. With our busy schedules, a goal of the task force is to accomplish as much as possible virtually. The first part of our charge was to develop a working definition of information literacy that can be used to educate the UC community as the task force moves forward. All members contributed to the definition discussion. The definition that emerged from this discussion will be presented at the LAUC Fall Assembly. When the Davis and/or faculty member join the taskforce the working definition will be reviewed to make sure it still meets our
needs. By the new year we hope that the task force will be complete, so that we can begin work on the second part of the charge. Look for a report on the second part of our charge at the Spring Assembly.
HOPS has tasked a Common Interest Group on Information Literacy. The two groups share some of the same members. Deborah Murphy, who represents UCSC on both groups, has offered to be an unofficial liaison between the two groups. Members the LAUC IL TF, who are not on both committees, have also pledged to work closely with the colleague who represents their campus on the HOPS IL CIG. We hope both efforts will promote communication and information sharing.
