Re: Committee on Diversity 2001 Fall Assembly Report FINAL REPORT

The LAUC Committee on Diversity has met once since, on July 16, 2001, its submission of the Spring Assembly report. The following accomplishments resulted from that meeting: Peggy Tahir and Chair and Lai-Ying Hsiung volunteered to serve as co-chairs. Their term of appointment will begin September 1, 2001-August 31, 2002.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  1. 1. Summaries of reports on diversity initiatives by UC Libraries compiled.
    [ Attachment 1: LAUC2001DiversityDivisionReports.doc]
  2. A list of committee reports and relevant documents were sent to Sal Guerena in April 2001, asking him be the liaison to work with the Andrea Duda to place them on the LAUC web site. The Committee was expecting these documents to be loaded to the Committee on Diversity's section of the LAUC Website by August 31, 2001, but the work is still in process. [Attachment 2: Lilycdcdocuments.doc].
  3. The committee reviewed and updated the Recommendations for Action 1999-2000 chart [ Attachment 3:2001LAUCDiversityRecommendationChart.doc]
  4. The document compiled by Lai-Ying Hsiung for future inclusion on the Diversity Committees' section of the Website: online pathfinders and guides to materials dealing with diversity. [Attachment 4:LAUCDIVERSITYPATHFINDERSBYUCCAMPUS.doc]

PENDING ACTIONS

  1. Draft Proposal 25% FTE Diversity Coordinator. This document needs further deliberations in 2002. It is not ready for submission to LAUC as a proposal. [Attachment 5:LAUCDIVPOSITION.doc].
  2. Continued communication and contact with Sheila O’Rourke, Affirmative Action liaison at UCOP, in order to insure that the committee obtains reports of University wide annual statistics on diversity.
  3. Follow-up with Andrea Duda, the LAUC Web Manager to propose a workable calendar and format(s) for loading the Committee documents on the LAUC web site. Whenever possible, the committee should find electronic copies of the documents.

MOTION TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE 2001 LAUC FALL ASSEMBLY:

Due to the name change of the Committee on Diversity in 1990, and having observed the usage of the phrase "cultural diversity" in Article VIII Section j 5 a, b, and c of the LAUC by-laws, the LAUC Committee on Diversity submits a motion requesting the Committee on Committees, Rules and Jurisdiction, to review the section of the LAUC Bylaws and replace the phrase "cultural diversity" with the term, "diversity."
