Charge: 

According to the Bylaws (Article VIII, Section 1.J.5), the standing
charge to the Committee on Cultural Diversity is to:

a) Advise the President and the Executive Board, and serve as a
resource for other committees and LAUC Divisions on issues and
initiatives concerning cultural diversity in University libraries.

b) Consider and develop recommendations and implementation strategies
on matters and initiatives concerning cultural diversity in University
libraries.

c) Address other subjects at the request of the President on matters
and initiatives of cultural diversity in University libraries.

The following specific charges reflect the ideas, issues, and
recommendations the committee voices in its reports in the last
several years. The intent of the additional charges is to gather data
that will provide LAUC with current information on the status of
issues and initiatives concerning cultural diversity in University
libraries.

In addition to your standing charge,

1) In fulfillment of standing charge a) and in an effort to establish
a baseline from which the LAUC President may take further action,
monitor and report to the LAUC President and the Executive Board
on University libraries' diversity sensitivity training programs (which
may include training to understand cultural, ethnic, racial, and
social diversity) as they pertain to everyday duties and
responsibilities of librarians, library staff, and library student
employees.

2) In fulfillment of standing charge a) and in an effort to establish
a baseline from which the LAUC President may take further action,
monitor and report to the LAUC President and the Executive Board
on University libraries bibliographic instruction programs, classes,
workshops, and outreach initiatives that 1) reach cultural, ethnic,
racial, and social groups on campuses and 2) include examples from
different cultural, ethnic, racial, and social groups in teaching
sessions and printed material.

3) In fulfillment of standing charge c), and to establish a baseline
from which the LAUC President may take further action, monitor and
report to the President and the Executive Board on University
libraries adoption and method of implementation of "Principles of
Community" type policies.

The Committee's recommendations should be submitted to the LAUC
Executive Board for review at any of the scheduled Executive Board
meetings on October 23, December 10 (Pre-Fall Assembly), March 12, or
May tba (Pre-Spring Assembly).

Formal recommendations that need approval of the membership are
presented at the Fall or Spring Assembly in the form of motions.
Please review the appropriate sections of Sturgis for how to make
motions. Please use the report format below.

Your contributions to the work of LAUC is very important. Thank you

committee.
