The 1998/99 LAUC Statewide Committee
on Cultural Diversity (CDC) met in its entirety on December
18, 1998 at the University of California Office of the President
(UCOP) in Oakland. At that meeting the CDC decided that in addition
to its charge the Committee would address growing concern among
the LAUC constituency regarding the status of the 1996 Report
of the Ad Hoc Committee to Review the "Many Voices of Diversity"
with Regards to Sexual Orientations Issues. To facilitate this
process the CDC asked LAUC President, Kari Lucas, to detail what
if any LAUC policies or guidelines existed regarding the submission
and mounting of Web pages generated by LAUC statewide committees.
In response Kari Lucas produced a document entitled 'LAUC
Web Pages: policies, guidelines and procedures'. This document
was accepted by the membership at the LAUC 1999 Spring Assembly.
Once the guidelines were in place the CDC pooled its talents and
created a Web page that provides links to the text of the 'Many
Voices' and 'Ad Hoc' reports. In addition
the the CDC put together a short 'History/Chronology'
which contains an explanation of the relationship between the
two reports and clarifies the current status of the 'Ad Hoc Report'.
The 1998/99 Committee was charged to survey
the campuses in regards to local diversity activity. The Web
page contains a link to the results of this survey. In keeping
with past annual reports the Committee contacted UCOP in May of
1999 and requested current statistics regarding the ethnic breakdown
of the LAUC membership. The table below represents data as of
October 1998.
