UC Riverside

Academic Life

UC Riverside offers bachelor degree programs in 78 majors, 50 Master’s degree programs, 38 Ph.D. programs and 17 state teaching credentials. Examples of world-class research projects distinct to UC Riverside include:

  • The ALPHA Center prepares students to excel in college and teachers to excel in the classroom, especially in the priority areas of mathematics and science. The Center has reached more than 119,400 students, 9,900 teachers and 845 administrators across approximately 190 schools in the state.
  • The Institute for Integrative Genome Biology is one of the world’s leading institutions of genomics research. IIGB’s interdisciplinary program provides researchers and students access to state-of-the-art tools for advanced studies in genomics, gene expression, proteomics, microscopy and bioinformatics.
  • The first of its kind in the nation, UCR’s doctoral program in dance history and theory attracts dancers from all over the world who document and perpetuate the art form.
  • Bourns College of Engineering researchers use spider silk to make hollow silica tubes 25,000 times thinner than a human hair to boost the resolution of optical microscopes. Researchers have isolated single neuron cells on an electrode, known as “brain-on-a-chip,” which may help conquer Alzheimer’s disease. The College excels in the development of alternative-fueled engines and vehicles, the conversion of biomass into vehicle fuel, and the study of air pollution.
  • The UCR/California Museum of Photography houses the largest and most complete collection of stereographic images in the world. These images are a vital resource for modern three-dimensional technologies, such as IMAX films.
  • The Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering is one of the world leaders in nanotechnology research, receiving accolades for work on nanoscale electronic devices, spintronic devices, carbon nanotubes, and sensors.
  • Citrus is synonymous with the Golden State. The Citrus Experiment Station has developed over 40 new citrus varieties and helped fight pests and diseases for the $850 million per year industry. UCR has played a role in the availability and release of every orange, lemon, tangerine and grapefruit grown in California.
