| Olusegun (Segun) Williams, Chemistry & Chemical Biology, UC San Francisco I had been interested in biology from the earliest time I can remember, watching and collecting animals and plants, but it wasn't until I witnessed an acid-base neutralization reaction that I appreciated the wonder of chemistry. I was seven years old. My mother, a high school chemistry teacher, strengthened my chemistry side, while an ambitious science fair project and two biological internships during high school helped me achieve a biology/chemistry balance. Maintaining this balance was a major force in my choosing biochemistry as my major, and it increased my desire to conduct research through college and continue in graduate school. During my Chemistry & Chemical Biology Program Interview at UCSD I was struck by the diversity of the research being conducted at the chemistry and biology interface. Now that I've been here for six months, I know I made the right decision. |
