Choosing...

The University of California offers a multitude of degrees and programs. The campuses share high standards of excellence. UC campuses house many top-ranked humanities, science, and social science departments. UC research centers conduct cutting-edge research and offer state-of-the-art facilities.

On the following pages is a listing of the degree programs offered at the 10 campuses. Several of the programs offer sub-specialties and interdisciplinary programs not listed here. Furthermore, even when a campus does not indicate a degree offering in a specific discipline, it may house the program you seek within a related department. To learn more about programs that interest you, talk to your own faculty, University of California faculty, and graduate advisors and recruiters. Also, check departmental websites for program updates.

Things to consider when choosing a program:

  • Does the program emphasize areas in your field that fit your career interests and goals – such as research, theory or practice?

  • Do the faculty have special strengths in your field of interest?

  • What is the academic reputation of the program as measured by the quality of faculty research projects and published work?

  • Are the libraries, laboratories and other research facilities adequate for your needs?

  • Are you academically prepared for the kind of program being offered?

  • What financial assistance is available?

Graduate education provides intellectual stimulation, creative inspiration, and fruitful rewards. Graduate students draw on their individual experiences, backgrounds, and interests. This diversity provides opportunities that enhance the quality of learning and scholarship at the University of California.
