    Description

The Risk Management Information System (RMIS) is a suite of database applications and associated tools that provide real-time input, query, and reporting access to self-insurance claims administered by the UCOP Office of Risk Mangement. The applications provide information on general liability, professional liability, property, self-funded annuities, and workers' compensation claims. Document archiving, print, fax, and file storage functions are also incorporated into the system.

    Customers

      Office of Risk Management
Risk managers at the UC campuses, hospitals, and national laboratories
      Octagon Risk Services, Inc.
      Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc.

    Access

Access to the Risk Management Information System is limited to campus, hospital, and laboratory risk managers and third-party administrator claim examiners working for Octagon Risk Services, Inc. and Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc. User access is provided via a group of Citrix MetaFrame Published Applications, a thin-client solution connecting to multiple Sybase database servers housed at the Office of the President. The Citrix environment allows the RMIS front-end database applications to run on any desktop computer independent of the local operating system.

    Technical Information

The RMIS production system consists of five Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 servers running Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 accessing data stored on two IBM RS6000 servers running Sybase over AIX 4.3. Two additional Windows NT 4.0 servers are used for file storage, network fax and printing services, antivirus scanning, and system administration.
