Description

The Dependent Data System (DEP) stores information about employees' dependents who are covered by the employee's legal, medical, optical, and/or dental plans. The data must be used in conjunction with the Corporate Personnel System to obtain employee data stored there. This system is used to produce several standard monthly reports, as well as ad hoc reports for benefits and workforce planning purposes.

Access

Corporate Dependent data resides in the UCOP Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW). Authorized users may access DEP data in the Corporate Data Warehouse themselves or they may obtain ad hoc reports and data extracts from IR&C on a recharge basis. There are also several production reports produced on a regular basis which are available to users, and selected standard reports are available via the web through the Corporate Systems Gateway (CSG). Direct access to the data is available for authorized users who wish to program their own data requests. See our Corporate Data Warehouse web page for further information on the methods of access that are offered, and how to obtain authorization.

Technical Information

The DEP database is stored on the IBM mainframe using the MVS operating system. Data is stored in a Focus database, and production jobs are written in COBOL and Focus. Data from the system is extracted and loaded into the Corporate Data Warehouse on a routine basis. The Corporate Data Warehouse uses the Sybase IQ database management software running on the UNIX platform.
