Description
The Corporate Personnel System (CPS) is a reporting system that provides Office of the President management and staff with demographic, personnel, and pay activity data on employees paid at the ten campuses, the Office of the President, the Division of Agricultural and Natural Resources, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Hastings College of Law, and the Associated Students of UCLA (ASUCLA).
Approximately one hundred production reports are produced from CPS on a scheduled basis. CPS databases include a monthly snapshot file, which includes only those employees who were paid or on leave during the relevant month; a fiscal year file, which contains payroll data aggregated into monthly buckets for all employees who were paid or on leave at any time throughout the fiscal year; and an annual fiscal year academic file which contains separation and new hire information on faculty.

Access
Corporate Personnel data resides in the UCOP Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW). Authorized users may access CPS data in the Corporate Data Warehouse themselves or they may obtain ad hoc reports and data extracts from IR&C on a recharge basis. There are also over one hundred production reports produced on a regular basis which are available to users, and selected standard reports are available via the web through the Corporate Systems Gateway (CSG). Direct access to the data is available for authorized users who wish to program their own data requests. See our Corporate Data Warehouse web page for further information on the methods of access that are offered, and how to obtain authorization.
Technical Information
The CPS production system runs in the IBM mainframe environment using the MVS operating system. Data is stored in FOCUS databases and production jobs are written in FOCUS, COBOL, and PL 1. Data from the system is extracted and loaded into the Corporate Data Warehouse on a monthly basis. The Corporate Data Warehouse uses the Sybase IQ database management software running on the UNIX platform.
