Wireless networking allows two or more computers to communicate with one another without the use of cables. Wireless Internet connectivity is available to all UCOP personnel and guests.
What are the coverage areas?
Wireless Internet access is available in all UCOP medium and large conference rooms in the 1111 Franklin, 300 Lakeside, and 415 20th St. buildings.
Are there any prerequisites to connecting?
The only prerequisite to connecting is a standards based 802.11b/g wireless access card.
How do I connect?
Turn on your laptop computer and launch your Web browser. You will automatically be re-directed to a login page. Enter the username/password provided by the signs in the conference rooms. You should then be connected.
Does UCOP wireless support BLUETOOTH or 802.11a?
The wireless infrastructure currently supports only the 802.11b/g standard.
At what speed will I connect?
Depending on your wireless access card and your proximity to the nearest access point; you will connect anywhere from 1Mbs to 54Mbs. The infrastructure is capable of supporting numerous users at speeds up to 54Mbs.
I've launched my Web browser but don't get to the login page.
If you launch your browser and do not get to the logon Web page try the following.
Disable and re-enable your wireless connection.
Reboot you laptop and launch you web browser again.
