Technology Asset Management Program

As of July 1, 2011, UCOP desktop/laptop computing equipment for use at UCOP Oakland locations is centrally purchased, deployed, and managed. The TechDesk selects standard computing bundles for normal UCOP business use, tracks inventory, and replaces computers upon warranty expiration.
UCOP supports a standardized PC environment to control support and equipment costs.
The TechDesk replaces out-of-warranty computers for existing personnel. Departments must request computers for new personnel and request approval for nonstandard equipment.
Departments pay a monthly technology infrastructure fee (TIF) per individual to cover a standard computing bundle, office phone, voicemail, and network access.
IR&C is responsible for tracking and reporting on desktop computing assets.
The program is being rolled out in three phases:
Departments request computer/software for new personnel via the IT Services Form.
Starting August 1, ITS will conduct an accelerated project to replace the oldest computers across UCOP departments.
To maximize UCOP's investment in computing resources, ITS replaces computers after four years.
UCOP personnel may request a loaner laptop for occasional business needs.
