IR&C provides support for all UCOP servers:
- House (co-locate) all UCOP servers in the Data Center
- Install, configure, maintain, and operate all UCOP servers
- Operate a virtual server group, or cluster, in which multiple servers run virtually and concurrently on a single physical machine
- Push out standard Windows updates and patches to servers
- Host all departmental file shares, networked printers, and backup services in the virtual server group
- Provide application owners remote access to servers as necessary
- Monitor server operations on a 24x7 basis and send e-mail alerts about problems to the application owner
- Upon request, provide departments with technical assistance with server equipment/software vendors
Servers are housed in the secure, environmentally controlled UCOP Data Center, which meets industry standards and complies with University policy for physical security. For more information on the Data Center and remote access capabilities, see the description for departmental server co-location.
