Secure Attachment File Encryption (SAFE)

Contact TechDesk for Assistance; note hours of operation

Service Description
SAFE is a service that allows UCOP employees to quickly, easily, and securely send large electronic files via a Web browser, rather than attaching them to an e-mail message. SAFE encrypts, uploads, and stores the files on a secure Web server and then sends the recipient an e-mail note with secure links to the materials. The service encrypts the file both in transit and on the SAFE server, thus ensuring the security of the file delivery. SAFE is used for file delivery; it is not a "file server" and cannot be used for file storage.

Files may be sent to anyone in any organization, provided they have access to e-mail and the Internet. UCOP employees will want to use SAFE if they have a business need to

From an organizational standpoint, an additional benefit to using SAFE is that it prevents the disruptions to the network, e-mail, and other critical services that one very large e-mail attachment can cause.

How to obtain a SAFE user account
