HR Update October 24, 2007

OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT COMMUNITY:

Re:  HR Update on the IT Support Plan for UCOP

As has been recently announced, UCOP is consolidating desktop and server services within IR&C, and we wanted to provide you with an update on this initiative.

Since the last announcement in August, UCOP HR has been working closely with IR&C and UCOP departments to assess needs, and to also define the positions we need in a way that more accurately reflects the existing market.  This is a necessary step because the existing desktop support job series does not adequately reflect the types of work, current technology environment or skills and expertise required to perform the broad range of services and support the consolidation will require.

Once we finalize defining and classifying these new positions and complete our discussions with the union, we will begin the recruitment process to fill the positions.  We will issue an announcement as soon as the positions are ready for posting, hopefully by the end of the year. As previously announced, the initial recruitment process will be open to existing qualified UCOP staff who meet the job requirements.

Thank you for your support and patience during this process, and we will be back in touch as soon as we have more information.
