2003 Comments Decreases from NASA, Dept of Ed.
2002 Comments Line 1417: Industry-sponsored research in materials science increased in FY 2002.

Line 1416: The FY 2002 increase is due primarily to a new contract from the Department of Energy.

Line 1424: The decrease in Other Physical Sciences is primarily due to the conclusion of a large DOD contract.

Line 1434: Other Environmental Sciences research decreased in FY 2002 due to the closure of two large NASA awards.

Line 1441: The Mathematics department experienced reductions in research expenditures funded by NSF and Institutional sources.
2001 Comments NSF CODE 024 increases seem to fall across the spectrum of semiconductor, quantum, polymer diodes and nonoscale bolometers new research.
NSF CODE 042 new expenditures seem to fall into research for autonomous transportation by Calif Dept of Transportation. New research includes structure preserving algorithms & Model reduction, and research for manageing fire hazards at the Urban-Wildlands Interface.
NSF CODE 080 increases in research funds for biological control of invasive green crabs, aquatic nuisance species research & outreach.
NSF CODE 053 decrease represents correction of codes from previous year.
