Recently we reported to ITLC on the joint project between UCLA and UCSD
(which has since grown to include UCM and UCOP) to develop campus
portals based on Vignette. One of the action items that came out of
that meeting was to form a workgroup with representation from any/all
of the major portal initiatives currently underway across the UC system
with the intent to evaluate areas where we can share portal content and
applications and promote interoperability between portals. It seemed
particularly important to us that standards be identified which can
facilitate these goals. UCLA has volunteered to host an initial meeting
of this workgroup, probably sometime in the month of November.
Recognizing that there are often multiple portal initiatives at each
campus, we would appreciate it if you would respond with the names of
individuals who are conversant with these projects and have an
understanding of their technical architecture. Based on the response
and the size of the group, we will plan accordingly and get back to you
later with a proposed date. A tentative agenda is attached. We solicit
suggestions for its improvement! (It could be we will need more than
one meeting to work through all of these topics.)
Please respond to Don Worth, worth@ucla.edu,
who will be coordinating logistics for the meeting. We would appreciate
a response by next Friday, October 15.
