The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) encourages the use of electronic information resources to conduct the University's business. Any individual who is granted permission to use UCOP communication resources is expected to comply with applicable federal and state laws as well as University and UCOP policies. Appropriate use of UCOP electronic communication resources is governed by the UCOP User Agreement for Electronic Information Resources and the University of California Electronic Communications Policy (ECP). All users and providers of UCOP electronic communications resources are expected to be familiar with the provisions of the User Agreement and the ECP.
Information Resources and Communications (IR&C) has been delegated leadership within UCOP to ensure effective, innovative, and accountable uses of information and communications technologies and responsible stewardship of UCOP IT assets. IR&C provides the information technology infrastructure for UCOP. It supports a suite of computer, telecommunications, software, and network systems that facilitates the conduct of business for UCOP. The AVP-IR&C provides security planning at UCOP and is responsible for the development and maintenance of information-technology related policies and procedures.
Allowable Use
All use of UCOP electronic communications resources must be in compliance with provisions identified in the ECP, Section III.D. Allowable Use. Consistent with the Allowable Use provisions of the ECP, electronic resources are available to eligible users in support of the administrative functions that support the University mission of teaching, research, and public service. The ECP identifies the following specific restrictions for which electronic resources may not be used:
The latter include, but are not limited to, policies and guidelines regarding intellectual property and sexual or other forms of harassment.
IR&C reserves the right to deny access to UCOP electronic communications resources when any use violates University policy, including any activity that directly or indirectly interferes with the operation of UCOP electronic communication resources.
Allowable Users
Section III. C. Allowable Users of the ECP identifies the class of individuals who are eligible to use University electronic resources. Those who are granted this privilege are University students, faculty, staff, and others affiliated with the University (including those in program, contract, or license relationships with the University).
At UCOP, allowable users are defined as follows:
Access to UCOP electronic resources terminates after a user's relationship with the Office of the President has ended.
