M. Stuart Lynn has announced his retirement from UCOP as Associate Vice President for IR&C effective June 30, 1999. Assistant Vice President Jim Dolgonas has been appointed Acting Associate Vice President for IR&C effective May 1, 1999.
The ESI is on schedule. The Policy Advisory Group and Planning Workgroup have met several times. Campus funds have been distributed. A consultant RFP has been issued. Applications underway include the revised payroll GUI interface (under development) and PAN processes (in design), and employee self-service address update.
The Watson-Wyatt study is complete and a presentation will be made to JOG. The Governor's May revised budget is due shortly: it is unknown whether will include the IT staffing funding.
A meeting of the campus Security Coordinators was held to discuss the implications
of the Electronic Information Security Guidelines IS-3.
A first draft of the proposed Electronic Communications Policy is almost complete as is expected to be issued shortly
for campus comment. It generalizes the Electronic Mail Policy.
A task force to update records management and records retention policies will be formed shortly..
A pro-card workshop was held in March. It was well-received by the attendees and is expected to shape further developments and applications.
Jim Dolgonas will provide a report at the meeting.
The CDL was officially launched in February with a definitive website. The patron-initiated request service was also launched. An architecture for image records has been established.
The status of the University's budget request awaits the issuance of the Governor's revised May budget.
The status of the CVU has changed. The four segments decided not to support the continuance of the CVU Foundation. Instead, each segment will establish its own website. Links to these sites will be established on the CVU homepage. UCOP will run the existing catalog and application until July 1 to provide for an orderly transition.
NLII's IMS is undergoing a change to a separate membership organization. During its formative period, IMS has been supported by a number of organizations, including UC. UC will need to decide whether to continue central support and membership in the new organization, or for each campus to make its own membership decision.
CENIC held a successful annual conference in May. The focus was on enabling applications and middleware. Plans are in hand for: (a) full Abilene connections (b) a link to UC Merced (c) CENIC-sponsored ISP access.
The University 1999-2000 Budget submitted to the Governor contained funding provisions for two major network initiatives. The fate of these initiatives awaits the Governor's revised May budget.
David Wasley will report to CPG and present a proposal.
No activity to report.
A report was presented to the Regents in March (to be distributed to JOG and CPG). Reports have also been made to the Legislature. These reports integrate reports in five mission critical areas: administrative systems, hospital information systems, medical instruments, physical facilities, and communications. As of the date of that report, we are on schedule. Current information will be discussed at JOG/CPG.
The State Auditor issued a report that generally recognized the quality of UC's efforts, although it mistakenly lumped our schedules together with other state agencies.
The ADEC proposal appears not to be moving forward. Too few institutions signed up for the ADEC proposal.
