UCOP Report to JOG ...
Records Systems - The project to convert the executive records collection from the former index/fiche-based system into the Excalibur system is complete. Analysis is underway for a system to provide distributed document management services to departments for document collaboration, shared access and storage. At this point, Domino.Doc from Lotus/IBM is the leading contender to support these needs.
Year 2000 - Work continues to update applications, hardware and systems software for Y2K compliance. An OS/390 time machine has just been made available for additional applications testing.
Pathways - The system handled over twice the number of electronic applications in November 1998 as compared to the previous year. The use of load leveling software in combination with FAST CGI, as presented during the last JOG meeting, provided for a robust and well performing system.
Demographic Database/University Directory - The nightly update of employee records and assignment of Net ID's continues. Specifications for nightly student record exchanges have been developed but are not being distributed pending receipt of additional comments from the campus Registrars. The system has been enhanced to support processing student records and the issuance of Net ID's. Work is underway to begin definition of an interface file of directory (e.g., work phone, work address, etc.) information.
Benefits Voice Response/Web-A second Web application to support submission of "salary reduction agreements" (403b withholdings) is nearing completion.
UCRS-A new system component, the external calculator tool, was completed and is in pilot production. It assists campus benefits representatives compute accurate retirement estimates. The system is Web-based and utilizes a Sybase database and Sybase stored procedures. A similar (an internal calculator tool) for use by UCOP UCRS staff is under development. A project to convert the system from VSAM to DB2 has begun.
Information Systems Security Standards-The Standards were issued in November.
Corporate Systems Upgrade - Development of a high level conceptual data model for the new corporate data warehouse is underway.
Treasurer's system upgrade - Two significant enhancements have been begun. One is Total Rate of Return and the other is Cost Recovery. These are major projects, both of which need to be completed at the beginning of the fiscal year.
Audio bridge- This capability has been added to the Nortel phone system to permit non-operator assisted teleconferencing.
Regents Membership System- This system was rewritten from PC Focus to Filemaker Pro.
UC Riverside Payroll System-The system is being migrated to operate at UCOP effective on January 19. Subsequently modifications will be made to support the new UCR accounting structure being implemented with the PeopleSoft financial system implementation on July 1, 1999.
