Debt Management System- as reported previously, the database update and reporting portions of this system are installed for use by Business and Finance. The database has been populated and discussion is underway with campus staffs about access to the data and about the second phase, development of a modeling capability. A subgroup has been formed to specify the model variables, assumptions, and output. Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources Information System- The effort reporting module is planned for testing in the winter and will go into production July 1, 1998. Conversion of the clientele portion of the system to support Macintoshes is also underway. Records Systems- The Excalibur-based OCR and image records system was reported as being in production in the September report. A project to convert the records from the former index/fiche-based system into the new system is underway. A requirements analysis is also underway to develop a similar system for the Secretary of the Regents use to storage and provide access to Regents agendas and minutes. Excalibur technology may not be utilized for this new application. Year 2000- Considerable resources are going into upgrading applications to be year 2000 compliant. All corporate interface files have been reviewed and no changes in interface files are required. Pathways- The undergraduate admissions component of this Web-based system was made available for use by all applicants last fall. Approximately 5000 applications (of nearly 80,000 total) were completed using Pathways and more would have been completed through the system had demand not been so severely underestimated. Demographic Database- Design of the Universitywide demographic database is underway. Production deployment is intended to include student records (as well as faculty, staff and others), providing campus librarians access to up to date information on currently enrolled students. A data request for daily student enrollment information to support this system will be distributed to campuses shortly. Modifications of the Payroll/Personnel system- Among noteworthy changes to the system have been those to implement the "TX" unit bargaining agreement. Included was development of a generic process to permit multiple, compounding retroactive salary increases. Additional TX unit maintenance is underway (one additional piece of the retroactive payment calculation and due and reporting processes). Also completed was work to support the Benefits Voice response new hire, health enrollment process, described below. Work on the new Surepay advice is underway for completion in March. Benefits Voice Response- The system was enhanced to add the labs to the open enrollment process in the fall. A subsequent enhancement implemented earlier this month permits new hires to use the voice response system for enrollment in health plans during their initial period of eligibility. Systems Development Standards-The draft system development standards were revised based on campus comments and distributed for use in draft form for one year. In late Spring, comments on needed updates will be solicited for development of a final version.
Corporate System Review- The Deloitte & Touche review of corporate systems was completed in draft in December. The scope of the study includes an assessment of the extent to which the current systems meet user needs and an analysis of possible alternative technologies which might be employed to improve functionality. Deloitte has recommended a two-phased strategy for upgrading corporate systems: first, the addition of Information Builders (IBI) reporting tools for end user reporting and then a second phase which includes a migration away from FOCUS, a possible restructuring of the databases, and likely implementation of new end user reporting tools. IS&C MVS Server software upgrade- OS/390 Version 2, Release 4 is to be installed shortly and DB2 V5 was installed in October. IMAP4 server-IMAP has also been installed for evaluation with different IMAP clients (Outlook, Eudora, etc.) Contingency Plan testing- planning for a test at the COMDISCO backup has been underway for the last 3 months. A test will be performed at the Illinois hotsite in February. A test of the retirement system operation at UCSD is planned for the Spring. New phone switch-an RFP process for a new phone switch resulted in an award to NORTEL. The switch will be used to support all UCOP facilities in Oakland. | ||
