| Brief Description | Rationale | Magnitude/Impact |
|
Leave Usage Collection
process generates a leave usage collection document, processes leave usage collection transactions, involves modifications to Time Benefits Roster program. |
Campus does not wish to anticipate leave usage for reporting, does not wish to report leave usage in same process with other time reporting, wishes to reduce impact of leave usage reporting on departments. | This process involves at present two locally written programs and extensive modifications to one base PPS program. Greater complexity will be added when financial leave accounting is implemented in 1997. Small to medium technical impact. |
|
Incentive Award Program Assessment Rebate
process identifies employee populations the salaries of which the campus wishes to tax at a lower rate than the established general rate. Calculates difference between the assessed rate and the campus-intended rate and generates General Ledger transaction in the amount of the difference. |
Policy does not permit assessing salaries of different employee groups at different rates. The campus intends that certain groups will participate less or not at all in the Incentive Award Program and wishes to relieve affected departments of the assessment burden. | A single local program reads Payroll Audit Record activity each month following the execution of the Distribution of Payroll Expense process and generates the requisite General Ledger activity. Small technical impact with moderate financial and policy risk. |
|
Health Science Compensation Plan Supplemental Insurance
process provides base-PPS-like insurance processes for locally negotiated insurances which protect supplemental income of Health Science Compensation Plan faculty members. |
HSC Insurances have long been handled by local add-ons to PPS. Because of the desire for greater integration into PPS reporting and processing, local VM/FOCUS processes have been re-written in COBOL using CICS and DB2. | Involves on-line entry/update and inquiry panels, additional DB2 tables in both EDB and CTL and significant changes to base PPS Gross-to-Net and Expense Distribution Processes. Very large technical impact. |
|
Health Science Compensation Plan Appointment Maintenance
and Processing
provides: * base-PPS-like entry/update panels for maintaining appointment and distribution data for Health Science Compensation Plan faculty members, and *interpretation of complex HSC salary components for base PPS processes, e.g., Benefits Premium Audit. |
HSC compensation is complex and is subject to a number of policies and procedures which do not apply to other types of compensation. The five Medical School campuses were unable to agree upon appropriate base PPS functionality during the recent PPS upgrade project and the UCSF campus experts made the introduction of sophisticated edits a pre-condition for departmental input of HSC faculty data via on-line panels. | Involves on-line entry/update and inquiry panels, additional DB2 tables in both EDB and CTL and significant modifications to base PPS modules. Very large technical impact. |
|
PAN Notification Routing Maintenance
process provides base-PPS-like entry/update panel and two browse panels for maintaining PAN recipient data by departmental personnel. |
The delivered panel which support maintenance of PAN recipient information does not provide organizationally-oriented security nor does it provide a 'departmental view' of PAN recipients. The campus insists that PAN recipient information be maintained by departmental personnel and that security restriction be in place before this responsibility is rolled out. | Involves on-line entry/update and inquiry panels, additional DB2 tables in both EDB and CTL. Large technical impact. |
|
Merit Processing System
provides on-line entry panels for processing non-academic merits. Also provides alternative reporting forms with collapsed distribution lines. |
Human Resources wanted the ability to enter merit changes on-line and to re-format the document used by departments to reduce the number of lines to be marked. | The Merit Processing System is comprised of a VM/FOCUS master and a number of VM/FOCUS panels and programs. In addition, there is a batch program that translates the output of this system into input for the base PPS system's PPP680 module. Large technical impact. |
|
PPSLink
provides, through a graphical user interface, reports intended to meet the 'bulk notification' need for central offices and others. The system also includes minimal EDB inquiry functionality and is intended to have ad hoc query functionality soon. |
Several central functional offices and Deans' Offices required the ability to have both periodic and on demand reports of changes to employee records and reports which identify employee records which meet certain selection criteria. | The PPSLink system is comprised of a complete Sybase copy of the EDB, PAR and ETH databases, a significant portion of the CTL database and various locally-devised tables, and a client executable developed in PowerBuilder. There are minor modifications to the EDB Entry/Update PAN processor. A set of production jobs is run nightly in MVS and on the Sybase server to assure that the Sybase copies of DB2 tables are current and that local tables are populated. Large technical impact. |
