Accessing DOE Laboratory Data

Effective September 1991, data for DOE Laboratories became available in the Corporate Personnel System. Only authorized Office of the President users may access DOE Lab data. Authorized users include all UC Benefits' and Labor Relations' users who already have CPS access, as well as selected users within Compensation Programs and Human Resources. Authorizing users for DOE Laboratory access involves assignment of a special access code within the Account Administration System.

DOE Laboratory data will have all the same data elements and FOCUS names as Campus data. However, because of the differences between DOE Labs and campuses, many of the Laboratory data fields will reflect no data. For example, while Labs have title codes, these titles look nothing like Campus title codes and also differ from one Laboratory to another. While we have added title names for your convenience, any other University Title Code System data fields such as CTO, SubFOC, Personnel Program, etc. will contain no data. All data fields originating from the Corporate Account Fund Profile such as Department and Division will also contain no data for Labs; the same holds true for Account, Fund and Sub since these accounting fumctions are not applicable to Laboratory data.

Available Laboratory data include primarily Benefits data, salary information and some collective bargaining data. Data fields such as CCAMPUS, CAMPUS, 10LOC, 11LOC, LOC10, and LOC11 will reflect values for the Laboratories whenever you access Laboratory data only or in combination with Campus data.

When you first enter Native FOCUS in CPS, you will automatically be linked to Campus data ONLY. To interactively access DOE Laboratory Snapshot file data ONLY (excluding campus data), type the following from within Native FOCUS:

>GETLABS

The system will reply:

>You are now using Lab data ONLY for your table requests

To interactively access Laboratory COMBINED with Campus data, type the following from within Native FOCUS:

>GETBOTH

The system will reply:

>You are now using BOTH Lab and CAMPUS data for your table requests

To once again interactively access Campus data ONLY, type the following from within Native FOCUS:

>GETCAMP

The system will reply:

>You are now using Campus data ONLY for your table requests

You may next proceed with your table requests. You may issue the usual Table commands (i.e., Table File Snapshot or TFS).

Accessing Laboratory combined with Campus data results in a slower and more expensive run than accessing Lab data only or Campus data only. If you must access Campus and Laboratory data together, it is better to run your job at night when reduced rates are in effect.

When you submit jobs to run at night, you will automatically be linked to Campus data ONLY. To access Laboratory data ONLY in Batch (i.e., overnight), add the following as the first line of your focexec before submitting your Batch job:

>-Include FCPULABS

To access Laboratory COMBINED with Campus data in Batch (i.e., overnight), add the following as the first line of your focexec before submitting your Batch job:

>-Include FCPUBOTH

To access Campus data ONLY in Batch (i.e., overnight), either submit your focexec without any INCLUDE statements, or add the following as the first line of your focexec before submitting your batch job:

>-Include FCPUCAMP
